Funeral services for Ruby M. Self, 92, of Wagoner were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Church of God in Wagoner, with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. Mrs. Self was born September 21, 1916 in Mount Judy, Arkansas to her parents, Penn and Rita McCutcheon. At a young age she and her family came in a covered wagon to the Haskell, Oklahoma area, where she grew up and attended school. She married Frances Paul Pete' Self in 1931. They moved their family to Tulsa in the early 1940's. During World War II Ruby worked at Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa. She worked at the Frito Lay plant in Tulsa for over 20 years until her retirement. To be close to her family, Ruby moved to Wagoner, residing for several years. Ruby was known as a wonderful homemaker and cook, and she loved sharing the many cookies and sweets that she baked for her family and friends. She passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Wagoner Community Hospital, surrounded by her family. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete' in January of 1981; her son, Roy Self; her great-granddaughter, Brittany Self; a sister Lydia Mitchell and two brothers, Burr and Frank McCutcheon. She is survived by her son, Jim Self and his wife, Billie of Wagoner; a daughter, Rita Owens also of Wagoner; a sister, Audra Campbell, of Harrison Arkansas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers for Mrs. Self were Dalton Self, Billy Barney, Jimmy Self, Jeremy Watkins, Chance Shankles, Johnny Dale, Chris Orman and Larry Ketcher. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Self, Steve Self, Ab Nicholas, Richard Blunk, Ron Pitchford and Claye Frost. Condolences may be left on-line at www.mallettfuneralhome.com.
