Ruby Jane Hutchens Taylor, 100, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1924, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Odus and Effie Hutchens and grew up in Mazie, Oklahoma.
Ruby has been recognized as one of the nation's "Rosie the Riveters," working at Tinker Air Force Base during World War II. She met her husband, Jimmy (R.H.) Taylor, a sergeant in the U.S. Army at Tinker. They were married in Hope, Arkansas, and together, they built a life of faith, hard work, and family, raising three children and enjoying 58 years of marriage.
Ruby worked more than 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service and was a longtime member of Pryor First Church of God (Creekside Church) and later, First Baptist Church of Wagoner. She loved fishing on Fort Gibson Lake, cheering for OU sports, playing cards with friends, and sitting peacefully on her front porch. Above all, she was devoted to her family and her faith.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Cathy Whitaker (husband Rick) and Janet Taylor; her grandchildren, Karen Metcalf (husband Michael), Tony Taylor (wife Kari), Kyle Whitaker (wife Tonya), Kelly Whitaker (wife Erika), Katie Trevino (husband Jonathan), and Emily Jenkins (husband Mike); 21 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Taylor; son, Ron Taylor; granddaughter, Veronica Satterwhite; and great-granddaughter, Kelly Marie Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Mallett Funeral Home.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 2, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home.
Ruby's legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love will live on in all who knew her.
