Ruth Pearl Garrett was born in Morris, OK, the eldest of six children born to Ernest and Nellie (Ford) Adams. The family moved to Porter, OK, where Ruth attended school until the birth of twin siblings required her to finish her studies after the 8th grade. Thus began a lifetime of loving and caring for her family that continued all her life, especially shown in the devotion she made known to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who affectionately call her “G. G.” for Great-grandmother Garrett.
Ruth married her beloved husband, Vernon Garrett, and they began a life together that was built on love, partnership, and commitment. Together they raised six children, providing a loving home and setting an example for generations to come of how to live a good life. Ruth’s skills in decorating, sewing, cooking, and canning were amazing and vital to providing for the family. Her family is blessed by the legacy of her sharing a vast knowledge of life and the skills she has passed forward to the next generations.
Ruth knew how to have fun and enjoy life. She liked to fish and was happiest when all her family could be together, enjoying each other’s company and playing games, dancing, or watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday night.
After making Porter their home during the beginning of their marriage Vernon and Ruth moved to Tulsa, where they lived until 1968 when they relocated to the Snug Harbor area around Ft. Gibson Lake near Wagoner, OK, their home, for more than fifty years.
Ruth departed this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the age of 104 years. Her family is comforted by their faith that she has been reunited with her parents, Ernest and Nellie Adams; her husband, Vernon Garrett; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Wheeler and Marilyn Ruth Thayer; a son, J.C. Garrett and a son-in-law, Randy Hudson.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Vernon Leroy Garrett and wife, Saundra Kaye, Robert Lee Garrett and wife, Linda, and Teresa Kay Hudson; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 11 am until 7 pm at Mallett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garrett's family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life service at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home. Officiating will be Life Celebrant Mary Jane Whisnant.
