Samuel Aaron Adair was born on September 17, 1936, to Watie Adair and Lila (Ketcher) Adair in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He received his formal education and graduated from Wagoner High School. Samuel met and married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Fortner. They shared 67 years of marriage, filled with love, companionship, and countless memories, enduring a lifelong commitment to each other.
Samuel was a dedicated bass fisherman and a familiar face in various fishing tournaments, including the Lucky 13 tournament, where his passion for the sport shone. Beyond fishing, he cherished vegetable gardening and took great pride in supporting his kids and grandkids at their sports events, as his family was central to his life. He also spent time tinkering in his shop, crafting fishing lures, demonstrating his creative side, while proudly serving his country in the Air Force, fostering a sense of humility that defined his character. He was a diesel mechanic by trade at Crane Carrier for many years.
Samuel departed this life on Monday, March 17, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 88 years. Preceding him in death are his parents, Watie and Lila Adair; son, Michael Adair; and 2 sisters.
Those left to cherish the many fond memories of his life include his beloved wife, Barbara Adair of the home; his daughter, Diane Adair of Hulbert, OK; grandchildren, David Stauss and wife, Ashley of Hulbert, OK, Stephanie Robertson and husband, Chance of Hulbert, OK, Cody Adair and wife, Moriah of Hulbert, OK, Dylan Adair of Hulbert, OK; great-grandchildren, Gavin Stauss, Connor Stauss, Chevy Gailey, Kamden Adair, Kiara Adair, Cayden Robertson, and Parker Adair; siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, all who will miss him dearly.
Samuel's legacy will certainly endure, as the values and love he imparted to his family will be cherished and carried forward, ensuring that his passion for fishing, dedication to family, and commitment to service continue to inspire future generations.
The family will greet friends at the Visitation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5-7 pm in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home.
The funeral service, honoring the life of Samuel Adair will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner, OK. Pastor Halston Williams will officiate.
Interment will follow in Hulbert Community (IOOF) Cemetery in Hulbert. Those serving as pallbearers are David Stauss, Cody Adair, Chevy Gailey, Chance Robertson, Dylan Adair, and Gavin Stauss. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Kamden Adair, Connor Stauss, Cayden Robertson, Stephen Drywater, and Dewey Keener. The family has enstrusted his care, and service to Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory, Wagoner, Oklahoma.
