Sharon Gayle (Byrd) Marsey was born July 10, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Robert and Zelma (Steelmon) Byrd. Sharon earned her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and began her teaching career August, 1978 at Haskell Public Schools were she taught kindergarten, later becoming a reading specialist. She completed her Master's degree in Special Education, which was the focus of her later teaching positions. Sharon dearly loved children and dedicated her 32 years career to their care and learning. After teaching in Haskell for 23 years she taught at Tulsa McClain, Sandberg and Ben Franklin before going to Okmulgee schools from where she retired in 2010.
In her spare time Sharon liked sewing, reading, crosswords, scrapbooking and any kind of arts and crafts. She especially loved watching her grandchildren participating in their sports. She was very good at baking, and the family will always remember her Christmas candy and Thanksgiving dressing.
Sharon departed this life early Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK, having recently celebrated her 72 birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Zelma Byrd; her grandparents and a baby brother, William Byrd.
Left to cherish her memory are her family in Wagoner, OK: one son, Samuel Marsey; two daughters and their husbands, Sherrie and Keith Moody and Debbie and Brent Lawson; her grandchildren, Ashton Merrell and her husband, Johnny Ray, Caitlyn Saucedo and her husband, Micaiah, Jacob Marsey, Mikaila Moody, Hunter Marsey, Elijah Moody and Gracie Marsey; her great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Merrell, Cayden Merrell, Addison Saucedo, Gabriel Saucedo and Weston Saucedo; her cousins and other extended family, including her Aunt Betty Steelmon of Richland, WA; her former students and friends.
Family and friends will gather for a Visitation Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, August 10 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory. Officiating will be the Reverend Rusty Jones.
Interment will be in Lost City Cemetery, where Sharon will be laid to rest beside her parents. Pallbearers will be Hunter Marsey, Elijah Moody, Blaine Mullins, Micaiah Saucedo, Cayden Merrell, Johnny Ray Merrell, Troy Bruner and Brent Tripp. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Marsey, Gabriel Saucedo and Weston Saucedo
