Shirley Mae Bacon was born May 2, 1938 in Lucy, Tennessee. She was the sixth of eleven children born to Vurnel Frederick and Lucy Leona (Hardee) Moore. The family moved to Wagoner, Oklahoma in 1951 where she attended school until 1957.
Shirley married Raymond J. Sharpe on August 14, 1957. The couple made their home in Detroit, Michigan until 1965. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Shirley enjoyed spending time with her sisters and caring for her nieces and nephews.
On September 27, 1977, Shirley married Richard Glenn Bacon. The couple first lived in Hulbert, Oklahoma and then in Wagoner. While in Wagoner, Shirley was heavily involved with the St. James' Episcopal Church, helping with numerous functions and volunteering wherever she was needed. She also helped care for her mother and sister, Lucy when they became ill. After the death of her husband, Shirley moved to Attica, Kansas to be closer to her sister, Polly. This is where she passed away on August 28, 2023.
Preceding Shirley in death were her husband, Richard; parents, Vurnel and Lucy Moore; brothers: Robert Weighnal Hardee, Vurnel Bryson Moore, and James Vurnel Moore; sisters: Dorothy Louise Armor, Lois Lillian Neel, Agnes Lorean Johnson, Lucy Juanita Moore, Kay Frances Moore, and Martha Ann Reinholtz. Those left to remember this beautiful lady are her sister, Polly Allenbach; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Prior to the service, family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. at the church.
Funeral Service is 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 at the St. James' Episcopal Church in Wagoner with Father Bob Wickizer officiating. Interment follows at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas 67058.
