Obituary

Slayton Ray Durrett was born on December 19, 1948 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Slayton Franklin and Phyllis Faye (Lacey) Durrett.  Following his graduation from Porter High School in 1967, Ray enlisted in the United States Army.  He served with honor in Vietnam and was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, along with other commendations.  He was honorably discharged in 1970.

Following his service in the Army, Ray attended Northeastern State University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing.  He utilized his degree through employment at the VA Hospital, as a service manager at Kmart, and for the Georgia Pacific Corporation before his retirement.

Ray had many hobbies throughout his life but racing stock cars was his favorite.  He spent countless hours with his father and friends building, restoring, and racing cars over the years.   His family recalls him as a collector of everything and he was thrilled when he found a deal too good to pass up.  The lights of his life were his children and grandson and he was never too busy to spend time with them or bring them along on whatever adventure he had planned for the day.

Ray departed this life on Friday, January 26, 2018 in Tulsa Oklahoma at 69 years of age.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Durrett; a daughter, Lacey Durrett; a sister Sharon (Durrett) Good and two grandparents, Verlin and Joe Durrett.

He is survived by his loving family, a son, Gary Ray Durrett of Muskogee; a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel (Durrett) Kaiser and Bill Kaiser of Broken Arrow; one grandson, Tate Kaiser; his father, Slayton Durrett and his wife JoAnn, of Porter ; a niece, nephews and many cousins and other extended family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
