Steven Gale Pelt
Steven Gale Pelt, 69, passed away on September 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born March 26, 1957, in Okemah, Oklahoma, to Thurman and Marian Pelt. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering and went on to enjoy a long and successful career in technical sales, most recently serving as Vice President of Business Development.
Steve approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an unmistakable passion for the things he loved. Cars, motorcycles, music, electronics, and anything mechanical were never simply hobbies to him—they were pursuits he embraced with vigor and remarkable skill. He also had a strong perfectionist streak and took great pride in doing things well—(sometimes?) perhaps a little better than they really needed to be.
His natural giftedness with all things electrical and mechanical showed itself early and often. Over the years, Steve restored his beloved 1967 Mustang, designed and built an enclosed speaker system for his sister Susan’s Celica long before Kicker and similar systems became commonplace, and even built his own stereo amplifiers and tuners from Hafler kits. If something could be designed, improved, rebuilt, wired, tuned, or made louder, Steve was usually interested.
Music was another lifelong passion. Steve played guitar in various bands over the years—sometimes even for money. There is still some debate, however, as to whether the band was paid to play or paid to stop. Later, he became the DJ for numerous Wagoner High School class reunions, arriving with a seemingly endless playlist and the kind of sound system that only Steve could have assembled.
His professional life reflected many of those same qualities. Steve combined technical knowledge with an ability to connect with people, earning the respect of customers, coworkers, and colleagues throughout a career that took him across the country. He leaves behind countless friends and colleagues from coast to coast who loved him, respected him, and will remember him fondly.
Steve is survived by his wife, Danita (Wallace) Pelt, of the home; his sister, Susan Randall and her husband, Brad; his nephew, Josh Randall, of Tulsa; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Pelt, and his mother, Marian Pelt.
Steve will be remembered for his intelligence, passions, enthusiasm, and his desire to pursue the things he loved wholeheartedly. Whether he was working on a car, building a sound system, playing guitar, talking shop, or sharing music with a room full of old friends on "music night", Steve brought something uniquely his own to it.
He will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
Honorary pallbearers: Tom Bennetch, Steve Wilkey, Alan Thompson, Manuel Rhodes, Donald Oliver, John Miller, Jimmy Baker, Mike Coonts , Terry Baldwin, Bruce Wallace, David Moore and Brad Randall.
