Obituary

Sylvia Christine (Spears) Rosenthal was born February 1, 1935, in Blackburn, Oklahoma to Lonnie Cleo and Clara Lucena (Mynear) Spears.

She married Wayne Alford Rosenthal on December 16, 1952. They were married for 70 years and shared a life full of love for each other and their family as well as a strong faith in God. They were faithful members of the Wagoner Church of God for nearly all their married life. Sylvia's life reflects the message in 1 Corinthians 13:13: "So now faith, hope and love abide, these three; the greatest of these is love."

Everyone who knew her will surely be comforted by Sylvia's love for them all, especially her grandchildren.  Sylvia's family have so many wonderful memories to sustain them in the coming days. She was a caregiver to all, family and friends alike, including Sylvia's pet dogs, Felix and Lightening. She was a great cook and loved to prepare food for everyone.

Sylvia worked as a salesclerk before retirement. Many people remember her helpful presence at Walmart.  In her leisure time she loved working on word puzzles.

Sylvia departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at her home in Wagoner, Oklahoma. We are reassured in the promise that Sylvia was welcomed by her parents, Cleo and Clara Spears; her daughter, Patti Ford; brother, Leslie Spears; son-in-law, Steve Hash; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ola and Vernon Rosenthal; sister-in-law, Betty Spears and brothers-in-law, Melvin Morris and Bill Kirkpatrick.

Those left to cherish Sylvia's memory are her loving husband, Wayne Alford Rosenthal of Wagoner; two daughters, Rhonda Hash and Angela Rosenthal, both of Wagoner; grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Lori Gilmore of Broken Arrow, James and Chasity Hash of Wagoner, Natalie Hash of Tulsa, Kevin and Pam Hamil of Muskogee, Chucky Jones of Wagoner, Dakota and Stephanie Jones of Tahlequah, and Ciara Graham and Mike Bradt of Richmond, VA;  a brother, Elton Spears of Pawnee; two sisters, Cleta and husband, Bob Collyar of Ponca City and Linda Morris of Texarkana, TX; sister-in-law, Becky Graham; her aunt, Velma LeMonnier of Ponca City; numerous nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

The Memorial service to celebrate Sylvia's life will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 19, 2023 in the Church of God in Wagoner. Officiating will be the Reverend Bruce VonWald.
