Funeral services for Tarzon Keeton, 96, long-time resident of Wagoner were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with the Reverend J.T. Carvell officiating. Tarzon was born April 15, 1916 near Keota, Oklahoma to H.F. and Nancy Ellen (Baker) Keeton. Around 1927, at a young age, his family moved to the Wagoner area where he grew up. In 1940 Tarzon married Inez Young and together they had a daughter, Bonnie. Tarzon worked at Farmer's Produce for several years before taking two years to serve his country in the Army during World War II. During his service, Tarzon fought in the Batlle of Iwo Jima. In 1951, he began his career with Wagoner Public Schools as a custodian and bus driver, retiring after 30 years of service in 1981. Tarzon also worked at the Wagoner County Court House for over 10 years doing maintenance. In 1984 he was united in marriage to Dovie Asher. Tarzon enjoyed working in his garden and flowers, fishing, cooking for family gatherings and square dancing. He was a member of the American Legion, International Order of Odd Fellows, the Masonic Lodge and the Twilight Twisters Square Dance Club. Surrounded by his family, Tarzon passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Wagoner Care Center. Tarzon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and mother of his daughter, Inez; his second wife, Dovie; his three brothers, Millard, Earl and Elmer and his four sisters, Istus Ballard, Delmer Riggs, Dorothy McGill and Ima Maner. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Carter of Wagoner; two sisters, Vera King of Henryetta, TX and Jewel Maldonado of Wagoner; his two grandchildren, Westly Carter and his wife, Chemen and Rhonda Carter all of Wagoner; three great-grandchildren, Dannielle Kalmbacher and her husband, Brent of Wagoner, Morgan Carter and his wife, Kristen of Shawnee and Heather Howell and her husband, Jason also of Wagoner; three great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Howell, Alexander and Aurianna Kalmbacher; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers for Tarzon were James Jennings, Shane Greer, Johnny Carter, Jerry Merrill, Jason Howell and Scott Keeton. Frank Greer served as an honorary pallbearer. Military Honors were performed by the American Legion, Post 56 and he was escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. Funeral arrangements and interment in Elmwood Cemetery were directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
