Thomas E. Mohon of Porter, Oklahoma and formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa died peacefully, February 3, 2024 in Muskogee, Ok at the age of 90 years with his loving wife, Lavada, by his side.
A memorial service celebrating Tom's life will be held at First Baptist Church, Porter, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 10 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Porter, Ok. Mallett Funeral Home, Wagoner, OK is caring for Tom and his family. Ph. 918-485-2911. A memorial service will also be planned at a future date in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Born, 8-29-33 in Council Hill, Ok. to Jesse L. and Lois A.(Holt) Mohon, he was one of 4 children raised on the farm.
Tom received his education from Connors State College in 1953, and soon after married Doris Reynolds where they were married until 1999. They had three sons: Michael, Gerald and Richard.
His successful career of 13 years with Security Acceptance Corporation eventually landed the family in Marshalltown, Iowa where he became the Branch Finance Manager until 1970. Tom saw a need for affordable housing and opened Sunset Mobile Homes in 1969, eventually bringing all sons into the family business before retiring in 2002.
Tom utilized his business knowledge to serve his churches for many years. He was also an avid sports fan, fisherman, and loved to travel. As a savvy investor, he spent over 60-years attempting to outsmart Stock Market Analysts.
Tom remarried in May, 2001 his childhood friend from Council Hill, Ok., Lavada (Smith) Mohon. For nearly 23 years he professed to all how special Lavada is and how lucky he was to have reunited with her.
Tom will be known for his zest for life, and shared his Faith and life lessons to anyone who would listen. He deeply loved his family, and encouraged them to do their very best and keep Christ above all.
Left to cherish his memory are Lavada, his loving wife, two children: Gerald (Sharon) Mohon of Newton, Iowa; Richard (Carrie) Mohon of Marshalltown, Iowa; 11 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren; a Sister, Doris J. Pruitt of Hartshorne, Ok., step children, Darla (John) deSteiguer of Edmond, Ok., Diane Hendrix of Fayetteville, AR; and Randall Miller, of Tahlequah, Ok, as well as numerous family and friends. He was preceded in Death by his parents, Brother's James Mohon, and Benny Mohon (infant); firstborn Son, Michael Mohon; and step daughter, Debbie Miller.
