Obituary

Tollie Jones went home to be with Jesus, surrounded by a loving family, on Sunday, March 14, 2010. He was 74 years old. Tollie and his wife, Lola, made their home in Wagoner 14 years ago. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the First Assembly of God Church in Wagoner. Officiating will be the Pastor, Rev. Rich Young. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Muskogee. Tollie was born on April 23, 1935 in Muskogee to Ross and Effie Jones. He was the youngest of 10 children. He lived a number of years in the Commerce and Pitcher area and graduated in Muskogee in 1953. He spent his early years working at Beam and Ball learning to be a television technician. He started with Muskogee Fire Department in 1964 and retired as an Assistant Fire Marshall in 1984. Tollie married Lola Hayes on September 14, 1957 in Muskogee. They had three children, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Tollie was interested in western history and enjoyed reading about it. He also liked working crossword puzzles. Tollie was very good at mechanics and enjoyed having projects to tinker around with and fixing things around the house. He enjoyed cooking for his family. There were a number of dishes that his children and grandchildren liked, and he took great pride in cooking it for them. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight of his brothers and sisters and his beloved son Barry. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lola, his daughter, Peggy Cochran and husband Tom of Las Vegas, NV, his son Darrell Jones and wife Cynthia of Broken Arrow and daughter-in-law Pam of Broken Arrow. He is also survived by three grandsons, Bobby Michael and wife Laura of Jacksonville, FL, Kyle Jones and wife Lesley of Bixby and Jonathan Jones of Broken Arrow. He has four granddaughters, Shanna Michael of Las Vegas, Kendra Jones of Broken Arrow, Lexie Jones of Broken Arrow and Hannah Jones of Broken Arrow. Tollie also has four great grand children, Gunnar Jones of Bixby, Geurin Jones of Broken Arrow, Makayla Michael and Katella Michael of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by a sister, Winifred Meidinger of San Francisco, CA. Tollie is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Max and Imogene Hayes, Dean and Wanda Hayes, Douglas Hayes, and Carolyn and Melvin Walters, all of Muskogee, Margaret Hayes and Wanda Hayes of Bakersfield, CA. Pallbearers will be nephews Marshall Walters, Mike Hayes, Brad Hayes and Clint Hayes and family friends Don Smith and Keith Tackett. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
