Funeral services for Veachel D. Collins, 94, long-time Wagoner resident will be held at 10:00 a.m, Friday, April 22 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Willie Rice and the Reverend Rick Boyne officiating. Veachel was born January 15, 1917 in Lost City, Oklahoma to his parents, William I. and Octie Amanda Collins. He grew up and attended school in the Lost City area and at a young age was baptized in the 14 mile creek. In 1938 Veachel worked with Vernil in the CCC Camp. On December 16, 1939 Veachel was married to Hazel York, a union lasting 62 years until her death. He was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1942 he moved his young family to Wagoner and began working at the Powder Plant in Pryor, he helped to build the Ft. Gibson Dam and worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa. In the early 1950's he purchased the Wagoner Glass Co. which he operated for many years. Most of his life he also farmed around Wagoner. Veachel was a true outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunts in Colorado and was an avid pheasant and quail hunter, even into his 90's. He served on the Wagoner City Council, was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and a 50 year member and past Worshipful Master of the Wagoner Masonic Lodge. Veachel passed away Saturday, April 16 at his home in Wagoner. Veachel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel in 2001 and by his 8 siblings. He is survived by his son, Rayburn Collins and his wife, Linda of Wagoner; by his daughter, Dianna Sue Lee and her husband, Wilburn of Sallisaw; his grandchildren, Dr. Michael and Lori Collins, Deborah and Tom Hill and Bryan and Tami Collins; step-grandchildren, Dwain Lee, Cindy Lee, Jeffrey Lee, Marlon Lee and Darrin Lee; great-grandchildren, John, Robert and Melissa Collins, Stephanie and Abby Hill, Megan Peacock and Jennifer and Anthony Collins; four step geat-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons, Michael, Bryan, John, Robert, Phillip and Anthony Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Whitmire, Calvin Bell and Kenneth Halpain. Funeral arrangements and interment in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner are being directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner. Memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Research.
