Velda Irene Stevens was born July 24, 1941 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Jasper and Alma (Callison) Wells. After graduating from Pryor High School Velda attended the Oklahoma School of Business and then began a career as a secretary in the legal profession. While living in Tulsa Velda was a member of the Garnett Church of Christ. After retirement she moved to Wagoner and continued to enjoy the good times with her family who were so important to her, as she was to them. Velda Stevens departed this life on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Stevens; her parents, Jasper and Velma Wells; grandparents, Eri and Gertie Callison and Clara Price; and an infant brother, Jasper Wells Jr. Survivors include her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Jim Carey of Wagoner and Norma and J.C. Canon of Pryor; her nieces and nephews to whom Velda was so close, Cathy and Bill Back, Shari Self and Keith Southerland, DeAnn Standridge, Kristy and John Ulrich; Kelly and David Bance; Jon Philpot and Casey Copeland; numerous great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces; a special maternal uncle, Gene Callison; two aunts, Margie Flournoy and Louise Sisk; other relatives and many friends. No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are by Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
