IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vera
Lawhorn
April 18, 1917 – March 9, 2023
Vera Lee (Patrick) Lawhorn was born in Ozark, Arkansas on April 18, 1917. She was the eldest of five children born to Johnny and Zula (Nixon) Patrick. When Vera was nine years old she arrived from Jethro, Arkansas into Wagoner, Oklahoma on a covered wagon. The family was here to stay, and Vera later married David Otto Lawhorn. They made their home and raised their three children, Barbara, Phillis and Jim in Wagoner. For many years Vera was employed by Wagoner Public Schools as the Secretary at Ellington School.
On the home front, Vera was revered as a wonderful cook. Later in life, when Otto became ill, Vera learned to cook for the special diet he needed, taking good care of him for many years. Theirs was a loving, caring and happy marriage, and an example for us all.
Vera departed this life Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She would have celebrated her 106 th birthday on April 18. We find comfort in the faith that she was welcomed by her parents, Johnny and Zula Patrick; her husband, Otto Lawhorn; her daughter, Phillis Seaman; grandchildren, Chris Morgan, Sherry Walker and Michael Sevier and her siblings, H. C. Patrick, Ruth Turnham and Betty Kennedy.
One of the benefits of such a long life is the multi-generational circle of family to love and adore. Vera was blessed by such an extended family. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Barbara Nunley of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Henryetta Lawhorn of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Fleming and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Vera's wonderful life will be celebrated at 1 PM on Monday, March 13, 2023 in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. The Reverend Dr. Richard Allen will officiate. Viewing will begin at 10 AM Monday.
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery where Vera will be laid to rest beside her husband, Otto. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Below we share a tribute placed on Facebook by her grandson, Brian.
