Vernon Harley Mayes was born June 9, 1924 in Oklahoma to Stephen Douglas and Helen Frances (Hefley) Mayes. Before his retirement Vernon was employed by the State of Oklahoma as a maintenance worker. He made Wagoner his home most of his life and enjoyed spending time with his friends. Vernon departed this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at St. John Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 1 day. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Frank and Wayne, and an infant brother. Survivors include his nephew, Chuck Mayes and his wife, Elizabeth, and niece, Debbie Withers, all of Tulsa; other relatives and friends.
