Funeral services for Virgie Mae Thompson, 91, long-time resident of Wagoner will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the New Beginnings Outreach Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Terry Presley officiating. Virgie was born August 22, 1918 in the Yonkers Community near Wagoner to her parents, Henry Randal and Lavina Mae (Kelly) Young. The oldest of 12 children, Virgie and her family moved to Wagoner in 1943 during the building of Ft. Gibson Lake. She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family. She was very involved in church throughout her life. In her early years, Virgie sang in a family gospel quartet and could be heard from a radio station in Tulsa. She was so active with her church family many knew her as Maw Maw'. Virgie passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Wagoner Community Hospital. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents; 8 of her siblings; her husband, Paul Pinkie' Thompson; a daughter, Phyllis Clutter; an infant son, Bryan; a grandson, Eric Thompson and a son-in-law, Irvin Oliver. She is survived by her daughter, Ella Mae Oliver; two sons, Phil Coulson and his wife, Barbara, and Alan Thompson all of Wagoner; and a daughter, Edwina Thompson of Tulsa; a host of grandchildren, great -grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Young of Cushing, Chester Young of Tulsa and Jerry Young of Sand Springs; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Don Oliver, Scott Oliver, Sonny Thompson, A.J. Carolan, Robby Coulson and Steve Wilkey. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.
