Funeral services for Wanda Akin, 83, life-long resident of Wagoner were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with the Reverend Shannon Davis and the Reverend Richard Hedger officiating. Pallbearers were Louis Murdock, Dennis Heflin, Joe Murdock, Darrell Akin, Steve Raley and Dan Powers. Honorary pallbearer was Bobby Elder. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. Wanda Akin was born March 24, 1926 to Arch and Wilma (Hayes) Akin. She grew up and attended school in Wagoner and shortly before her graduation was recruited by the First Bank & Trust in Wagoner. In a career spanning 60 years, Wanda began working as a cashier and later became a Vice President of First Bank & Trust. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wagoner. Wanda enjoyed shopping and sightseeing and traveled on many bus tours. Family and friendships were important to her, and she had a special place in her heart for Macy, her cat. After a brave and valiant fight against illness, Wanda passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21 at her home in Wagoner. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carmen Murdock and a nephew, Marty Murdock. She is survived by her sister, Camille Keagy and her husband, E.W., of Tulsa; her brother, Darrell Akin of Wagoner; nieces, Connie Heflin, her husband, Dennis, and their daughter Cassie, of Broken Arrow; Rhonda Raley, her husband, Steve and their daughters, Ariel and Sayre of Texas and Amber Gammell of Georgia; a brother-in-law, Louis Murdock; other relatives and many friends.
