Obituary

Wanda Mae (Carpenter) Wassom went to rest in heaven with her beloved husband Robert on September 10, 2017. Wanda was born to Joseph F. Carpenter and Laura Jane (Sellers) Carpenter on June 22, 1928 in Council Hill, Oklahoma.  Wanda was one of eight children raised on a small family farm in Council Hill, Ok.  All have preceded her in death.  They include her brothers:  Willard, James (O'Dell), Joe and Leonard and sisters:  Juanita Harris, Lucille Ashworth and, Gertrude Lawrence. Wanda fell head over heels in love with a handsome young man with roots in Wagoner County when they met one night at Hamlin's El Toro where Wanda was working in Muskogee, OK. She was married to Roy Robert (Bob) Wassom on April 1, 1950, and they began a life together that spanned sixty-three years before his death on September 2, 2013. They together had three surviving sons and a daughter, Kathy who preceded them in death. They were blessed with a long list of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wanda was in charge of the forty acre farm and the family during the years Robert still traveled doing road construction. Wanda knew how to stretch a dollar, take care of stock and chickens, raise a garden can food and iron an unending number of jeans and shirts.

Over time Wanda worked at a local sign company, running a band saw at the first Mag Wheel Company in the world, here in Wagoner, and at the local dry cleaner. She later worked at Prestolite where she enjoyed the companionship of other women working side by side.

She and Robert always had time to have fun with family and friends and loved to go square dancing. Wanda made sure her sons attended church. They attended the First United Methodist Church in the early years. Later, following Robert's retirement, he and Wanda became very active in the Maple Park Christian Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Randy Ellis & Susan May Wassom of Wagoner, OK, Michael (Kim) & Nancy Wassom of Fremont, CA and Roy Robert Jr. & Lisa Wassom of Wagoner, OK; grandchildren: Michael "Shane" & wife Jamie Wassom, Brandon Scott & Letty Wassom, Jessica Wassom and husband, Sean Sarbaz, Cory Wassom and husband, Adriano Martins, Lori Ann Wassom.
