Gaylard Wayne Burrows was born June 30, 1941 at Waveland, Arkansas to Paul Jerome and Ella Mae (Withers) Burrows. The family soon moved to the Choska Bottoms area near Porter, OK, where Wayne grew up and graduated from high school. During his youth Wayne learned to love the outdoor life and ranching, including caring for his cattle. He married the former Judy Florence Lawrence on July 13, 1963. They enjoyed a long and happy life together for nearly 51 years. Wayne's sons have fond memories of his coaching Little League Baseball when they were growing up. Wayne worked in construction early on and later settled in to a career as a tool and cutter grinder. He was employed at North American Rockwell, Prestolite, Braden Winch and Hilti during his career before retirement. Wayne enjoyed politics and served his community as a Wagoner City Councilor. He was a member of the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Wagoner. Wayne Burrows departed this life late Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Wagoner, OK, having just celebrated his 73rd birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Glenn Lee Burrows. His loving family who survive him include his wife, Judy Burrows of the home; two sons, Robbie Wayne Burrows of Haskell and Bryan Lee Burrows of Wagoner; five grandchildren, Justine, Clint, Marcy, Dylan and Lauren; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Lee and Bristol Thomas; his siblings and their spouses, Gordon and Linda Burrows of Coweta, Wanda and Kenneth Hughes of Coweta, Richard Burrows of Wagoner and Kenny and Sharon Burrows of Broken Arrow; also, several nieces, a number of great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and friends. A funeral service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Rick Boyne and the Reverend Willie Rice will officiate. Interment will be in Bennett Addition of Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. Pallbearers will be Frank James, Herman Reed, Justin Thomas, Chris Burrows, Richard Burrows and Tony Obannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Obannon, Benny Akard, Gordon Burrows, Junior Gray and Bob Rice. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mallett Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.
