Obituary

Funeral services for William T. Bill' Cobb, 87, of Wagoner will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 24 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Wagoner with the Rev. Clay Frost and the Rev. Leon Schneider officiating. Bill was born Oct. 17, 1924 in Wagoner to his parents, Gilbert Benson and Annetta (Sullivan) Cobb. He grew up and attended school in Wagoner before joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. During World War II, Bill served aboard the U.S.S. Boxer and U.S.S. Belle Grove in the liberation of the Philippines. He also was among the first to pilot the Marine Am Tracs in the first wave at the Battle of Iwo Jima. Returning home after the war, Bill worked to clear timber for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of Ft. Gibson Lake. On July 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to the former Lorene Yeary. Bill moved his family to Redding, California where he worked for Comconex and Doelher as a foreman, laying cable for Pacific Telephone. He was a member of the Laborer's Union, and after 26 years he retired and returned to Wagoner. Bill was an outstanding steel guitar player and loved playing in church. To many, he was a jokester, yet was always ready to help those in need. He loved his wife and family and was always giving treats to little children. Bill passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 19 at the Wagoner Care Center. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Van, Joe, Bud and John Cobb; his sisters, Naomi Fielden, Ruth Ann Holt and Eva Graham. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorene of the home; his son, Clyde Colburn and his wife Evelyn; grandson, Kevin, all of Redding, CA; his twin brother, Bob Cobb; sisters, Isabel Allen, Nettie Henson and Betty Center, all of Wagoner; brothers-in-law, Fred Yeary of Wagoner and Johnny Yeary and his wife Sharon of Collinsville, OK; sister-in-law, Bernice Haskins and her husband Bill, also of Redding; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Jim Cobb, Don Fielden, Carl Davis and Rick Henson. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Cobb, Fred Yeary, Johnny Yeary and Willie Rice. Military Honors will be performed by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner.
