Funeral services for Billie Walker, 90 of Hulbert, OK will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10 at the Prairie View Church west of Hulbert, with her brother, the Reverend Jake Evans officiating. Billie was born March 23, 1921 in Glenpool, Oklahoma to her parents, Granville and Nicey (Coonhead) Evans. Billie grew up and attended school in the Tulsa area. She was very competitive at an early age. Billie was recruited as an Olympic swimmer and was a champion Powder Puff' stock car driver in the 40's and 50's. She was even invited to race Midget Cars' in Europe. She continued her education at NSU and became a teacher for the Headstart Program in Hulbert for many years until her retirement. Billie was very active in her church as an Elder, musician, song-leader and Sunday school teacher. To her family, she was always a wonderful mother and homemaker. Billie passed away Wednesday, March 7 at the Cherokee County Nursing Center in Tahlequah. Billie was preceded in death by her parents; her 8 brothers and sisters and her husband, Francis Walker in March, 1993. She is survived by her three daughters, Kay Ellis and her husband, Stewart of Lawton, OK, Shirley Walker also of Lawton and Jeanne Hood and her husband, Keith of Hulbert; her brother, Jake Evans of Kiefer, OK; 7 grandchildren and spouses, Billy Ray McAnally, Barry Hood, Darla and Randy Bodnar, Ashley and Matthew Wilson, Christopher Schoenfeld and fiancé, Ashley Vega, Bryan Eaton and Joy Dawn Eaton; 5 great-grandchildren, Walker Hood, Gavin and Hannah Russell, Adriana Eaton and Dorian Glantz; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Billie's grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers, Billy Ray McAnally, Barry Hood, Bryan Eaton, Christopher Schoenfeld, Matthew Wilson and Randal Bodnar. Funeral arrangements and interment in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner are directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
