IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bettie Lou
Center
September 3, 1930 – July 2, 2021
Bettie Lou (Cobb) Center was born September 3, 1930 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. She departed this life Friday evening at the age of 90 years, having been preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Meyer, daughter, Alice Annette (Meyer) French and her parents and all her siblings. Her twin sister, Nettie, entered this world a few minutes before Bettie, making Bettie the youngest of twelve children born to Gilbert Benson Cobb and Nettie Elvira (Sullivan) Cobb. The family and its generations have maintained a closeness that is rare in today's time.
Bettie attended Wagoner High School before she married Johnny Meyer in 1947. Bettie and Johnny worked together tending to their farm and raising their girls, until his death, when Bettie continued to care for her family and run the farm on her own. She worked as a substitute teacher, a hostess at Baker's Restaurant, and other endeavors, but her heart was always with family and home.
Later in her life Bettie married Roy Center. Together they ran Center Furniture before retiring in 1984. They loved to travel and became "snowbirds', spending winters in Southern California and South Texas. They were avid square dancers and active in the Twilight Twisters Square Dance Club in Wagoner. They shared many happy years together before Roy's death. His daughter, Mary Ellen, preceded them in death.
Her family left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Louise Meyer Rhodes and husband, Floyd, of Coweta; son-in-law, David French of Wagoner; brother-in-law, Carl Meyer and his wife, Corrine; grandchildren, Amy Dewey and husband, Erik, Jennifer Geary and husband, Jay, John French and Julie Fugate and husband, Leandros; great-grandchildren, Hope and Piers Dewey, Jack and Alice Geary and Luca Fugate and many other extended family. Roy's family who will remember Bettie with fondness include daughters, Linda Adams, Joann Heffley and Betty Lou Henderson and their families.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church on Broken Arrow at fbcba.org/give. "In memory of Bettie Center, mother of Louise Rhodes."
A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
The funeral service will be at 2 pm Friday, July 9 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home. The Reverend Mark Pointer will officiate. Pallbearers will be John French, Erik Dewey, Jay Geary, Mike Henson, Piers Dewey and Jack Geary.
