IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billy Leon
Barney
June 23, 1949 – May 12, 2024
Billy Leon Barney was born on June 23, 1949 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Clyde Barney and Dolly (Johnson) Barney.
Billy worked for many years with his dad at Barney Roofing. This time was interrupted when Billy was drafted and served in the Marine Corp for two years during the Vietnam War. He was fortunate to be placed state side and was a cook at Camp Pendleton. It was here that began his love for cooking over the years. Many have enjoyed "Billy's Chili", knowing that the secret ingredient was love.
He worked for 10 years at Ft. Howard as a Fork Lift Operator. Due to health issues, Billy "retired" at the age of 51 to care for his newborn son and to begin the family real estate adventure as Owner/Operator of Double Creek Properties.
Billy loved singing and ministering for 30 years with the gospel group, Charity. He also enjoyed golfing with his buddies and with Drew. It was a regular Wednesday outing. Billy had been bowling for the last 20 years with the senior leagues and most recently the "Barney Dream Team". He was most proud of his accomplishment of two scores of 300.
Billy departed from this life on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at his home in Wagoner, Oklahoma at the age of 74.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clyde and Dolly Barney, and his sister, Debbie Barney.
Billy is survived by his wife of 32 years, Brenda, and their son, Drew, both of the home; daughter, Tammy Barney, and son, Jason Barney, both of Wagoner; sisters and their husbands, Karen and Shelby McCollum of Wagoner, Brenda and Bill Holland of Muskogee, and Shirley and Kenny Miller of Edmond; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends and relatives at a Visitation on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory.
