Obituary

On October 1, 1940 Bonnie Mae (North) Lightfoot was born to Elijah and Annie (Smith) North in Noble, MO. She was number six of ten children. She came from a large family with very humble beginnings when considering material things, but they were rich beyond belief when it came to family. They always had a wealth of family love, with caring and respect for each other. The North family moved to Wagoner, OK after the birth of Bonnie and continued to live there until their deaths.

Bonnie had her first son, Chuck Bailey when she was 16 years old, Rick at 19 and Tammy at 20. She continued her education with lots of support from her family. She received her Bachelor Degree and Master Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, her counseling certificate from University of Central Oklahoma, and her Administration Degree and certificate for University of Oklahoma.

While attending summer school classes, she and her son, Chuck, would commute to classes together. The lesson that she taught all three of her children was to always know what you want to do, work hard to reach your goal and work harder to exceed in whatever you set out to do.

She always tried to treat everyone with respect and expected them to get to know the students were number 1, and their parents ran a close second. The premise under which she ran all the schools that she had an honor to direct was:

  • Treat everyone fairly.
  • Set high expectations for work ethic.
  • Expect respect.
  • Live by your own expectations of others and always recognize a job well done.

Those served her well. She would always share with her coworkers that-the most important testament of getting something done is how willing you are to be involved in the process. Ms. Lightfoot served the children in some facet for over 40 years-as a teacher 7 yrs., counselor 5 yrs., principal 15 yrs., assistant superintendent 10 yrs. and superintendent 4 yrs.

Bonnie left this worldly home on January 28, 2022 to join her heavenly father and all her family who have preceded her in death.

Those who preceded her in death include her parents, Elijah and Annie North, brothers, John North, A.D. North and Leon North; sisters Lottie McConnell, Faye Hoffman and Ruby Ellen North.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Lightfoot; sons, Chuck Bailey and wife, Crystal, and Rick Bailey and wife, Tonya; daughter, Tammy McCown and Gayland Stubblefield; stepsons, Darren Lightfoot and Russell Lightfoot; grandchildren, Shelby Croslin and husband, Chris, Dustin Graham and wife, Courtney, Burke Bailey, Brylee Bailey, Erin Bailey, Brooke Bailey and Kristen Bailey; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Grace, Oakley Faith, Palmer Hope, Miller Mae and Brody Slate; sister, Lois Creech; brothers, Bill North and wife, Beverly and Charley North and wife, Sharon; lifelong friend Belinda Rogers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
