Obituary

Elvin Gene Lemley was born June 26, 1931 in Porter, OK to Halley and Beulah (Morris) Lemley. Gene married Mary Louise (Lang) on November 29, 1952. They were married for sixty-six years and were blessed with four daughters, Betty, Karrie, Nita and Belinda.

Gene served in the U. S. Army, but always knew that Porter was his home. He enjoyed farming all his life and was happiest plowing his garden or baling hay. Gene would always lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors by tilling a garden or mowing without beings asked.

Gene was employed at the Hiner Filling Station and for Wagoner County before working in the coal mine where he was a drive line operator and fueled the equipment, among other duties. He later became an employee for the Town of Porter, working in several capacities, including serving as caretaker for the Greenwood Cemetery.

Gene dearly loved his family. That included his daughters' friends as well, who were always welcome in the home. He and Mary were blessed with many young people who liked to gather at their house. In his later years Gene was his happiest when children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were around.

Gene departed this life Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Eastgate Village in Muskogee, OK at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Halley and Beulah Lemley; his beloved wife, Mary Lemley; daughter, Nita McCain; brothers, Harold Lemley, J.D. Lemley and Charlie Lemley and a sister, Anne Dorr.

His family who survive him will always cherish his memory. They include three daughters, Betty Stockton and husband, Mike, Karrie Oden and Belinda Brackett and husband, Ricky, all of Porter, OK; one sister, Mary Dove of Muskogee, OK; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; extended family; special family friends, Martha Hytes and her mother, Dorthula and Cliff Walker and numerous other friends.

A Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm Sunday.

The funeral service will be at 10 am Monday, September 13, 2021 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Brown.

Interment will be beside his wife, Mary Lemley in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter, OK. Pallbearers will be Steven Shelby, Dan Dickens, Rex Oden, Timothy Reichert and Clay McCollough.
